Devlog #1 - Recent Progress & Small Wins!

So this is my very first Dev Log #1

I've had my eyes on the Adventure Game Jam for some time and have decided to take part in the Jam, I've always wanted to create a computer game but often my ideas just run away with me, so this seems like the perfect occasion to try and learn new skills and actual ship a playable demo of my game.

Since the weekend I've managed to progress in the following areas and feel proud so far to what I have achieved:

Saturday / Sunday

  • Learned how to use Unity and got up-to speed with Adventure Creator plugin which I will be using for my game (oh my it does make life easier)
  • Learn how to draw perspective rooms - and drew a bunch of scenes for my game to test with

Monday

  • Created a new Unity game with Adventure creator and hooked up all my drawn scenes and added interactive elements and could make my character move around
  • Added spoken voices to most parts of the test game
  • Started writing the game story, rooms and chapters (boy this is a long document now 40+ pages)
  • Gave myself a high five!

You can watch a short video of what I put together here (note pretty much all the stuff in here will not be in the final game)

Tuesday

  • My todo list in my mind was getting out of control so I created an organised list and priorities in www.clickup.com
  • Started work on drawing the actual rooms I need for my game (and my brain got fried with perspectives) .

Wednesday

  • Due to Tuesday beating me I decided that I needed a quick win so I've created a new cover image for my game it's not final but sure does feel great to have ticked something off.

The rest of the time I have today will be spent on trying to draw the room for the first chapter in my game my aim is to keep it simple and perfect it later on so we can have something playable.

Hope you all enjoy the update.

Great work!

Thanks :D

Impressive that you've learned Unity, AC, and drawing skills all within the game jam. Looking forward to playing!

Thanks for the reply. It means a lot. I think my day job of app development has helped a little in understanding tech stuff, but the AC tutorial was so much fun :)  Only time will tell if I have tried to learn too much, but the whole experience has been fun. Are you planing to enter the adventure Jam too?

Yes, I will be entering. Haven't had time to create the itch page yet though!

Some might say I procrastinated by making my page 🤣 good luck for the Jam; I can't wait to see what everyone makes.
